Its getting warmer. Beach season is getting nearer. I like going in October cause the weather is still warm and the beaches are’t too crowded that time of year. However, I can’t go in October cause I have to work my vacation around the school year. In North Carolina, school usually starts about the middle of August and ends the end of May. So, we end up going about the end of July.  I’m not sure where we will end up this year. I do know it will be a South Carolina beach cause its closer to where we live. It won’t be Myrtle Beach cause I dont like crowds.

I once worked with a couple who went to Myrtle Beach SC every January. I never could understand this. Too cold for me. I like playing in the ocean, swimming in the resort’s pool and other summertime activities. However, the wife told me, it was their favorite time to go to the beach. She was very budget minded, always looking for deals. She said, being off season, you could get an oceanfront luxury hotel at a deal. The beaches weren’t crowded either.  I guess not, with the ocean breezes coming off the ocean at this time of year seems like it would very cold. After reading up on the beaches in South Carolina, I found Hilton Head Island has mild winters with temperatures averaging 60 degrees. (This still isn’t warm enough for me to get in the ocean.) However, I dont think this is true of the northern beaches of South Carolina. Hilton Head Island is a couple of hours south of Myrtle Beach.

Some of the cities in Hampton county South Carolina are Yemassee, McPhersonville, Hampton, Gifford, Luray, Estill, Varnville, Furman and Scotia. Yemassee is located off I-95. The County has lots of historic sites. These include old churches, Plantation homes, and cemeteries. Many of the scenes from the movie Forest Gump were filmed here in Varnville.
