I have a handicapped grandchild with cerebral palsy who is confined to a wheelchair. Last year, we went to Hilton Head Island. Her wheelchair bogged down in the sand. It was difficult to push to say the least. Sand got into the joints causing more problems later. So, I am well aware of the need for a beach wheelchair when visiting the beaches anywhere. Fortunately, if you are handicapped, you dont have to buy another wheelchair for when you go to the beach at least not in North or South Carolina. Below, I’ve put together a list of beaches in North Carolina that will loan a beach wheelchair if you request one in advance. In most cases, you need to contact the visitor’s center or the fire or police department. The NC beaches are:
