Sand Dunes – NC & SC beach ecosystem

Posted in surf at 8:36 pm by admin

Dunes are important part of the preservation of a beach. When you visit carolina beaches please do not walk on the dunes. At most beaches, there are boardwalks or other access points in which you can cross to the ocean. Take care and dont pick any of the plants growing along the shore cause they are a part of the ecosystem too. Take your trash with you or if the beach has one, put it in a trash can.

Posted in attractions, north carolina beaches, surf at 3:50 am by admin

The Pamlico Sound is between the NC coast mainland and the outer banks. The water here is waist deep. It a good place to go kite surfing or kiteboarding. This sport is relatively new. It started in Maui Hawaii about 10 years ago. The good thing about kiteboarding is you can learn it in about a day. Its a good workout exercise too. Kiteboarding is quicker to learn than windsurfing. Its becoming a popular sport for people over 50 yrs old. Another popular vacation spot for kiteboarding on the US eastern coast is Dewey Beach Delaware.

One of the better surfing areas on the North Carolina outer banks is cape hatteras. It is mentioned in books as important surfing areas in the USA. Anyway, if you are going surfing, you should always think safety. The first thing you should know is how to swim. Never surf alone. quit when you are tired. Watch out for the surf board. It can fly out from under you and hit you. Try to avoid a wipeout. Know the best way to fall. Know your skill level. Know the surfing area as in learn about the waves, currents, undertows, riptides, undercurrents and what the bottom of the ocean is like in the area you are surfing. Ask the locals who surf. Be your best by knowing as much as you can about the sport.
