Hi,
My name is Gary Moore and reside in Concord, NC. I have a15 year old daughter in a wheelchair and for the past 5 years we have been searching for a beach wheelchair that not only would allow her accessibility on the beach but, would allow her a degree of independence. We have found such a chair. It's called the "Hippocampe". We just got back from the NC OBX and it did everything advertised. I have contacted several of the above locations and plan on contacted all to make them aware of this chair and hopefully make them available to the disabled community. The chair does allow the person with a physical disability to be independent on the beach if they have the upper body strength to push themselves or can be easily pushed by a helper.

you can make the drive from Greensboro without a stop over no problem. I am in Asheville and it takes about 8 hours to drive to the NC coast from here. I think Greensboro is about 2-3 hours from Asheville. Without looking on a map, I know I-40 cuts across the state. US-17 runs north to south along the coast. I-95 runs north to south close to the coast but not along side of it. Its closer for me to go to the South Carolina beaches than to the NC coast. It takes about 4-5 hours from Asheville via I-26.

This is just a suggestion, when my kids were about that age, we stayed at Atlantic Beach NC cause it was a good starting point. You could get a ferry to Cape Lookout here. Atlantic Beach is close to Fort Macon, Beaufort, Morehead City, Havelock. Its just a good starting point. I would stay at the Sheraton Oceanfront hotel simply cause its on the beach and you know its a quality hotel but this would also depend on your budget. There are less inexpensive places to stay nearby. check out the hotels in Morehead City or Havelock. If you browse through this blog and this page on North Carolina Beaches you will find more information. If you want a bit more info about specific towns etc. feel free to comment.
